Century Ranch, March 2018
After my family left Richmond, California, we landed in Century Ranch, half an hour West of the Interstate 5 (exit: Maxwell, home of the Richmond Rod and Gun Club.) Century Ranch was an abortive housing development; by the time we moved in during the mid-80s, it had a draconian HOA who provided bupkis in the way of perks or amenities. There's also a delightful secret about the area's aquifers, but I've said too much! Anyway, these serene, sere scapes of scrub oak and chaparrall under perfect blue skies informed so much of my later (oddly migraine-ridden) upbringing. Rattlesnake country, and plenty of diseased and ratty looking deer, but majestic and beautiful, n'est pas?
