Prologue: moments before the event
Standing at the platform edge I was waiting for the London Euston train to Milton Keynes Central at 11:04. It was due to arrive at 11:05 but was running late. Its estimated time of arrival was now pushed back to 11:09, not a heavy delay to warrant annoyance or disappointment. I was gazing from side to side, locking my eyes on announcement board keeping myself updated on the same news, “exp - 11:09”. It felt like a dream, Having to constantly look at a fixed point of information to realise I’m awake and not dreaming. It was at this point I took a deep breath and began to stretch. My neck and shoulders mainly as they have been feeling stiff lately. All this without trying to bring too much attention to myself. Even at an empty station I still wanted to avoid bringing unwanted attention.
Massaging my neck I continue to stretch and look upwards towards what I could see of the sky. The platform roofs obscured my view yet showed me enough of the sky to keep my gaze occupied.
I saw a Boeing plane fly between the gaps of the station roofs. At the speeds they move from this distance it looks so slow moving. it began to fade in and out of clarity as the clouds begin to engulf it. then, It was gone, swallowed up by the grey sky.
I hadn’t of realised how low the clouds were today. I also didn’t realise that that plane would be the last one I would ever see airborne.
My head is not in the right place for this. Traveling 1 and a half hours by train to London to be squashed in a tin can with 200 other people underground, it doesn’t sound like my idea Sunday. My head is killing me, yet only in one specific place, right above my right eye. That too feels swollen and puffy, I can feel it watering. I have to keep wiping a tear away without looking too much like I’m crying. I’m not its just so much pain now. Why couldn’t I of stayed in bed this morning?
I just hope this trip is worth it unlike last time, Hopefully I can meet everyone and it will be worth while. Not just a casual social call that cost too much, not only in time traveling and also money traveling.
Maybe theres something to see outside, usually something nice to look at. It was bitterly cold this morning which usually comes with clear blue skies yet oddly today its very cloudy. almost too cloudy. I can see a plane just taking off yet its already getting lost in the clouds. it can’t even be at 1000 feet yet and its already disappeared.
Something tells me today is going to be an interesting day.
Running late, again I can’t believe it. Which platform am I on? Come on signs which one of these is my train? 11:05 to London Euston where is it, which screen am I looking for, Yes! Platform 4, due at 11:05 whats the time now? 11:03? shit have to run.
I’m glad their aren’t too many people here, wheres my ticket which one which one, receipt no return no here it is.
“Good morning” the ticket attendant says.
“Hey you too, gotta run!” I reply a little too quickly. But its true I need to run or I’ll be late, wheres the platform now. 3, 2. other side 4, yes. Gotta run make it to the platform. How many stairs are there?
Turn right to the platform, don’t fall wheres the train? Sign, look for a sign there it is above the cute looking gentleman whats the time? 11:05:37… But wheres the train did I miss it?
exp - 11:09
Oh thank god I made it, But why is it delayed I’m not sure if thats a blessing or a curse. Running down the stairs took it out of me, I feel warm and need to sit down. I’ll just lean against this wall and feel the breeze against my skin.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath… The cool wind feels nice against my face, a little too cold but I’m a little too warm to care at the moment. What is that sound?
a plane just disappeared into the clouds and then I saw the sun, it could be that. I wonder what it could of been…
