So pleased to be on the cover of Compose Magazine, Issue 5! I wrote a feature piece about my experience with Off-Beat Figure Drawing and it's was extremely cool to see it in glossy print. You can check out the e-version here:
A small excerpt:
When Willow assumed her first pose the sound of scratching pencils, pens, and paint quickly reverberated off the walls. The bass swelled dramatically over percussive taps and plucks, and after a few minutes the second model (who later introduced herself as Ellen) arrived to complete the vignette. Between poses the air was filled with stretching arms and legs, and the sounds of tearing sheets. Before long the room had settled into a disparate focus, a kind of ironic machinery wherein each person was acting in complete discordance with their neighbour, but somehow functioning as a whole unit. I toed between the splayed legs and sketch pads and was struck by how a room full of people drawing the same thing could produce such wildly dissimilar images.
