I can't get excited about the OSCC and I'll tell you why. The whole thing is promulgated on the idea that this platform is the best and that it is permanent. It may be slowly evolving technologically, but the changes are ad hoc fixes and patches to problems and anomalies. As a result, we tacitly accept the inevitabilities of lag and glitches, even at the conference, and we laugh these off as part of the charm of Open Sim. Winter is coming. There is a change coming and that change will be so big that it will dwarf Open Sim and leave it in the dust bin of humanity. This is the way Paradigm Shifts work. In my view, the problems with the current platform are architectural and unfixable due to design decisions made very early on. Philip Rosedale knows this and this is why he is redesigning from scratch. It may not be High Fidelity that is the next big thing. It may come out of nowhere, but it is coming. As a result, I will continue to enjoy the current state of affairs, but to me I am settling. I am making do, until Virtual Reality really arrives.
