Mandy mouse peeked out through a hole behind the bookcase. No word from Max since he left last night.
She climbed down to the carpet and scurried toward the wooden shelving along the wall, ducking behind it, and climbing to the top. She squeaked twice, and listened for Max's reply.
No humans, and no Max. She darted behind a lamp and scanned again. The sweet smell of peanut butter filled her nostrils. Just a snack, then I'll find Max
She followed her nose toward the sweet treat, climbing down from the shelf and inching out from behind it. She surveyed the area. A peanut snack, maybe the humans dropped it. They weren't watching. The paste was wrapped in the twisted metal. Her tongue lashed inside. Fresh too. She grabbed the metal housing with her front paws and dug out the sugary paste with her tongue.
