Drive-through Enlightenment in just a few hours Does anyone know a proper English translation for this character? If so please comment on the thread over yonder chez @pianozen .
Summary: after he posted the bitmap of his avatar (believed to represent "enlightenment, wisdom, and creativity" ) I vectorized it and then simplified it and then animated it. The purple part is the simplified version. Black is the original vectors. We'd like to play with the shapes a bit, but are unsure how the stroke are drawn in Chinese or kanji -- directionality and ordering and that probably affects meaning. Perhaps my naive attempts at preserving the meaning of the glyph are as silly to a native speaker as some of the funny Chinglish things one sees on the web. Like "Carefully Bang Head" (sort of like "Max Headroom" or "Ford Prefect" in England -- I got a photo of the former this summer, it is real!). Anyhow @pianozen (my favorite "music programmer") and I may continue to explore "Enlightenment in a few easy steps," so stay tuned. P.S. When my colleague Yan Li came to visit for her sabbatical, I asked what the Chinese word for "juggling" was. She didn't know the English word so I juggled to demonstrate. She said "Oh I have seen that but don't know the Chinese word" She asked her husband. They conferred a while and came up with something that meant something like "clever play." Now, I want to know that set of characters!
