Record releases on Friday starting in July.
I feel like I should care or be nostalgic or something, but the reality is that growing up in my mountain town I never queued up at a record store on release day, and then most of the music I liked was imported, so I got it months or years after it was released.
The last record I remember buying on the day it was released - which could have been any day of the week, really - was News and Tributes by The Futureheads. I recall that because I listened to it while driving up I-70 to Copper Mountain for a convention. I ate cherries and threw the pits out the window. The album was an excellent extension for the band from their first album.
Actually, now that I look up the release date, I don't know that I did buy it on release day. I just thought I did.
I even worked at a big chain music store for a year or so. I don't recall Tuesdays being that big of a deal, but my store was in a mall. Maybe someone who worked at Tower Records would recall it being more of a to-do.
Now, if we can just get frickin' Daylight Savings Time sorted…Pick one or the other and stop changing the clocks! (Sorry…mini rant over)
