My father was a Muslim, born in Yemen and I was given a beautifully rich and middle eastern name. There are countless reasons to not vote for Trump. He has continually "other-ed" and "them-ed" what actually makes this country wonderful - our diverse make up of people and culture. It's unsettling to know that if he takes office I will be put on a spreadsheet because of where my dad was born and the name he gave me.
I am a woman. I am brown. I am proud. Let's continue to celebrate our differences and grow from each other's traditions and stories. Let's use our vote to communicate that oppression no longer has a place in our world.
My tattoo reads, "Do not fear, for I am with you," in arabic. Don't let fear drive our attitudes and postures towards one another. May we have a posture of peace and love towards one another.
