Patrick Bear (1964-) is a digital visual artist based out of San Francisco his body of work is primarily photographic he studied fine art photography at San Francisco Academy of Art University prior to moving to the Bay Area around the turn of the century he resided in the Pacific Northwest primarily in the rain forest of the Olympic Peninsula, and then metropolitan Seattle. Patrick has also live in Florida and was born just outside of New Orleans. He has traveled extensively across the United States. He has dabbled in photography for a large part of his life, first in film as a boy. When it became available primarily stayed in the digital area of the medium

The focal point of my photography is the unseen, the ephemeral, and the emergence of world under the mysterious and ever-changing sky.
My influences are multiple spanning from painting and sculpture, via philosophy - mainly the hermeneutics of thinkers like Heidegger, Vattimo, Gadamer, Arendt and more - to photographers as different as Eikoh Hosoe, Shomei Tomatsu, Shoji Ueda, Daido Moriyama, Masahisa Fukase, Kikuji Kawada, and Ikko to Magnum photographers.

In my search for visual forms, I consolidate the exchange between my personal gaze as an artist, and the narrative contained within the subject. What I look for in this narrative is the representation of not only a catharsis, but also the revelation of a hidden identity. It is not the pose, product of training or repetition.
My method is simple: to stimulate irrationality in gestures, in pauses, and in poses. It is almost the same process as with a performance, but above all, it is the final result of automatism.
