Finished up Happy Valley last night. Enjoyed it quite a bit.
Thought about how few roles there are for women like this in American television. Tough, conflicted, driven, intelligent, experienced, etc. It's not like British television is filled with these roles either, but there is currently nothing like this on American television.
I had one problem with a plot device in the last episode of the season (something I found implausible, but I guess could have happened, just seemed like a stretch) but everything else was fantastic - the acting, the writing, the characters, all top-shelf.
I'd check it out if you liked Fargo, Broadchurch, or The Shadow Line.
