I've been working on a play/installation for the past six months. It is an experimental piece by Asher Hartman called Purple Electric Play that centers around the idea of revolution and asks the question how much is enough to push towards violence, and if violence is necessary. The characters exist as things that are observed. Without an observer, there is no action, recognition, reaction. At times of incredible trauma, the self splits, so that the individual can observe themselves from a distance, strengthening their identity, acknowledging their desires, and recognizing their motivations. The audience are key actors, the roles of all characters blur together, the walls are broken, and the play continues well after curtain call. We are all actors. Oh, and did I mention there are muppets?
